A spacious and meaningful merger of 2 apartments… where function meets beauty and spaces flow into each other seamlessly, making the home an integral part of the beautiful family that resides there!
The design brief focussed on comfort, large spaces spilling into each other, light and more light and the traditional Indian Chettinad style of design. The main USP of the project was to utilise every single element that already existed in the original dwellings, along with some priceless pieces from the owner’s original collection. Reuse Reduce Recycle was the mantra here! Most of the woodwork was revamped and rehomed in different parts of the home, infusing new lives in new avatars. Highlighters in the flooring added the touch of authenticity, completely changing the look with minimal labour and wastage. The piece-de-resistance of the home is the improvised internal courtyard or the “Mittham” recreated in the centre of the home, complete with an intricate Madras terrace roofing pattern, a bright central light fitting mimicking the sun throwing light on a beautiful wooden swing or oonjal, traditional colourful motif tile flooring, and a majestic set of authentic wooden Chettinad pillars framing the entire space.
Scope of work:
Civil works included demolition and reconstruction to reproportion spaces, a complete overhaul of all 5 toilets, including creating a special personal toilet and passageway for the cutest, furriest baby of the household! A hi-tech home theatre room was created from scratch. Two adjacent homes of 1750 sft and 1250 sft were combined to make a large and comfortable 4 bedroom, 5-toilet home with several lounging private and family spaces.
